Background
My primary work these days consists of long form interstitials for Turner Classic Movies, most in the form of movie wrap-arounds. I did a lot of work for Filmstruck, the TCM streaming service, up until its closure in November. That was great work; I’m sad to see it go.
The most recent hour-long special I cut was “Sophia Loren: Live from the TCM Classic Film Festival”. Before that was Alan Arkin, as well as a surprise tribute to Robert Osborne, featuring his friends and family. I also cut “Eva Marie Saint: Live from the TCM Classic Film Festival” and a “Private Screenings” retrospective of Robert Osborne’s life and career. I was the primary editor on “The Essentials” for eight seasons, featuring Co-hosts Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, David Letterman, William Friedkin & Drew Barrymore, Rose McGowan and Carrie Fisher. Previously, I’ve cut interviews featuring Kim Novak, Liza Minnelli, Patricia Neal and four former child stars.
I’ve been in the business since 1988 (1985 if you count public access), and have been editing since 1993. I started at WXIA-TV in Atlanta doing studio and field production and live news, eventually directing the morning newscast, “11 Alive Today”.
In 1993 I took a job as a Commercial Producer for WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, writing, directing and editing local commercials. Back to Atlanta in 1995 as an on-line/Avid editor with Gannett Production Services, then to Peachtree Post, and finally Brick House Editorial when they merged with Peachtree in 1999.
Prior to joining Turner, I was the Senior Editor at ImageMaster Productions, where I also functioned as graphic designer, sound designer and engineer. My work there earned three regional Emmys, two for editing and one for audio editing.
I came to Turner in November, 2002, with a skill set that now includes editing, graphics, audio, engineering, directing and producing, complimented by client skills honed during thousands of grueling hours spent in dark, airless rooms. My work with Turner has received three regional Emmys and six Promax awards; 5 gold, 1 silver & 1 bronze.
Prior to ’88 I worked in trucking - drove a straight truck, loaded trailers, ran a forklift - which directly contributed to my getting the job at WXIA. But that’s another story.
